Our hearts are still breaking for Ava. She is currently in an outdoor kennel in a kill shelter in TX. When we first saw pictures of the awful skin infection that covered most of her body we knew we had to do something to try and help her, so we arranged for her to be taken to a vet. The vet discovered that not only was she suffering from the skin infection, but to make matters worse, she was also positive for heartworm as well as a few other tick-borne diseases (which are common in the south when the dogs are not taken care of). We treated her skin infection, tick-borne diseases, and heartworm. A wonderful person came to the shelter every day to give her the necessary medications. Happily she has finished her treatments for the ringworm infection and h er skin is now healed and her fur has grown back. She has also finished up her painful heartworm treatments! What is so sad is that while in treatment, no one offered to foster her. So despite how uncomfortable and painful the skin infection must have felt for her, she had to spend her days and nights on an old concrete kennel floor....and she continues to have to do so unless we can find a foster or an adopter. Even after suffering through all that, Ava remains a loving, gentle, girl. She is practically smiling when the volunteer comes to take her out for quick visits. Ava is estimated to be 2 years old and she weighs 44 pounds. She is up to date on her vaccinations and has been spayed. She is friendly with other dogs - check out the video of her greeting the other dogs at the kennel. If you would like to apply to adopt Ava, we will bring her to the NJ area.
